Caribbean Stud Poker is the most popular
of the progressive style card games. This game was invented some time in
the 1980's at a casino in the Caribbean sea and thus got it's name. Any
game that is called stud poker means that you only get the cards that
you are dealt and there is no option to draw for more card. In this
game, you are playing one on one against the dealer.
One of the features that
made Caribbean Stud unique was that the casinos offered
a jackpot that you could win part or all of by getting a
great hand. The catch is that the casinos made Caribbean
Stud a progressive game. This means that unless you put
a dollar into the progressive slot, you were not
eligible to win this jackpot.
In this game, the dealer
must get Ace/King in his hand or better in order to
qualify for the hand. Qualifying is one of the most
important aspects of Caribbean Stud poker and it will
often make the difference between a small win and a big
one.

Before you are dealt any
cards, you must place a bet. You get dealt five cards
and then have to decide whether to play your hand or
fold. If you want to play your hand, you must put in a
bet 2 times the amount that you anted. The payouts
differ if the dealer qualifies or not.
The ante is always paid
out 1 to 1 on a win no matter what. The bet that you
place afterwards only gets paid when the dealer
qualifies. If the dealer does not qualify, then it
doesn't matter what you had because you only get paid 1
to 1 on your ante.
